Consumer confidence jumps but unlikely to spark spending spree

JACKSONVILLE – A rash of home damage incidents left at least seven people homeless at a downtown area restaurant Tuesday, and most were children.

One victim, 바카라 who does not wish to be named for fear of violence, said his mother, who was also affected, was the only one to remain at the restaurant.

"She was sitting at the table, and (when) it started raining, (the staff) grabbed her to put her in the car and drive her to a motel," said the victim, who is 19 years old.

Police said a 17-year-old child was on the scene before the incident, and it is possible his mother was also among those who stayed at the restaurant Tuesday morning.

Authorities said the suspect in Tuesday's incidents is described as a male, between 6-foot-2 and 6-foot-2.5 inches tall with short brown hair and 바카라 brown eyes.

In an Instagram post, the suspect said the reason he was outside the restaurant Monday night was to "fight in the streets."

Some of the victims said they still do not know if the suspect was in Jacksonville at the time, and did not know if there was a history of homelessness in that area.

"This is really horrible news and it affects me so much," said the victim's sister, who asked to remain anonymous. "I'm so scared. It's upsetting."

"The kids, the teachers, the neighbors, everyone is hurt. I need them to be all right. I will take whatever support they need. I just don't know anything anymore," she said.

There was no word on the victim's condition.

In 2012, at least six people were arrested, including three teens, for attacking people. There were also two homicides in Jacksonville between 2003 and 2012.

It was the first time Tuesday's incident took place, police said.

"This is really bad news. It's very unfortunate for people that this did take place, in terms of its repercussions for residents who have been here a long time," said Maj. Mark D. Smith of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

At 7:30 a.m., residents around the area were able to check their mobile phones again to find that everything had calmed down.

A couple of people are still missing after an apparent homicide occurred near the scene of Tuesday's fire at the O'Neil Hotel on Bantell Street. The suspect who owns the hotel has been arrested and booked into the Marietta County jail for first degree murder. A third victim of the fire is still missing, investigators said.
