Quilt Versus. Comforter: A Bedding Dilemma
If you're not sure what design you should use, take a trip down to the closest fabric store and take a look at their collection of baby quilt patterns. If it is your first attempt at quilting, remember to keep it simple. A lot of the time less is more. This may mean something like the sky with some white clouds. Many people decide on a patchwork design even for baby quilt patterns. Pink and blue are always appropriate colors for babies so you really can't go wrong with that. If you don't know the baby's gender, than white or yellow is a safe, neutral choice.
Now you need to sew it together with the batting and the backing. As you probably already know, a blanket isn't just made of one layer. You will have to sew it together and then stitch across the entire quilt to hold it all together. This is where you can get fancy and make pretty stitch designs. If you are looking to get this done fast, just do a basic straight stitch across the whole blanket. You will have to do this sewing by hand, so get a comfy position on your couch and get sewing!

To choo-choos, airplanes, alphabet letters, boats and duckys are often a favorite baby quilt patterns. If you are going to leave the Golden Retriever outdoors, make sure you build or buy a sturdy one, which will be comfy for it; Use wooden straw for it on the floor or use newspapers or both. You can also try wooden shavings. Do provide a small curtain at both ends: it too feels the cold, you know, and the breeze or wind can make it uncomfortable. And yes, if it is cold, you can use that unused blanket or quilt that you just kept it away.. maybe you would have to look for it. It would love to snuggle into the quilt, and you may have to unfold the whole quilt to find where it went into!
I cut the denim into 4 inch squares and lay them out on the floor until I get the look I want. If your are using child sized jeans you may want to make smaller squares or even alternate between a 4 inch square and one that is made of 4 squares, 2 inches wide. Be creative. Your quilt blocks can be triangles, diamonds or what ever shape you choose. It is your design so let your imagination run.
