Harrah's Ak-Chin Casino Resort and the Pinal-Gila Council for Senior Citizens (PGCSC) is celebrating the successful first year of its Mom's Meals program. Launched in fall 2009, Mom's Meals is a project that provides nutritious meals for elderly and homebound residents that reside within the City of Maricopa and other unincorporated areas of Pinal County. Since the launch of the program, the project has provided more than 5,200 meals to 48 individuals who reside in the communities of Maricopa, Stanfield, Queen Creek, slotoff.com San Tan and other outlying areas of Pinal County.

Currently there are 39 clients who are receiving meals an average of 25 meals per month. Through Mom's Meals, home-bound participants receive a UPS shipment of 10 chilled meals every other week. Each nutritionally-balanced meal contains one third of the recommended dietary allowances as established by the Food amp; Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine. Clients can choose their meals from a pre-approved menu of more than 40 entrees. Funding for the program is provided by Harrah's Ak-Chin Casino Resort, which donated $20,000 to the Mom's Meals program for the first year of the program.

Harrah's has partnered with PGCSC since 2004 and funded the initial Meals on Wheels delivery program. The property has donated more than $176,500 to date toward senior care in Pinal County, including $141,500 cash support, a truck for home delivered meals equipped with a hot/cold box valued at $35,000 and volunteer support as well. Harrah's Ak-Chin's HERO Committee and the property's then-vice president and general manager, Geoff Andres, were honored with a "Hero Community Award" in 2007 by then-Gov.

"Through our HERO program, Harrah's Ak-Chin employees are able to donate their time to improve our community, so we're glad to be able to contribute to the great programs PGCSC has to offer." Additional funding for the Mom's Meals program is donated by the Federal Older Americans Act, Federal Shelter Emergency Food Shelter Program administered through United Way of Pinal County and ALTCS.
